Projects :: Dehli Handkerchief

Video directed by Steve Friendship for The Buoys track 'Dehli Handkerchief' from their debut album 'Grillo Parlante'

The sound and image of Delhi Handkerchief are permeated by real and metaphorical journeys. The motion suggested in the music triggered off thoughts of travel and journey in the directors' mind. These notions of journey were crystallized when Lindsay-Anne Heald, who at the time of the shoot was 6 months pregnant, agreed to play the main role in the film. The film is a fictional reflection of her journey to motherhood. Her metaphorical journey is towards understanding her nature, and how her life will irrevocably be changed by her child.

"Dehli Handkerchief was shot on some of the worst movie cameras I could find. The bulk of the footage is shot on my canon stills camera, which functions at 320 horizontal pixels and at 15 frames per second. I did some tests and liked the results; the lo-fi image is the digital equivalent of super 8 film, giving the video a home movie feel." - Steve Friendship
