As a Turntablist and composor, my work explores the manipulation and remixing of sounds contained on vinyl records. The search for obscure records in charity shops and records fairs known as crate digging, is an important part of my compositional process, but I also create new records specifically for use in performance. I take samples from old records and manipulate them using digital signal processing in the computer environment, to further process and develop the sound material, for example creating drone textures and using convolution effects to combine sounds. I also record environmental sounds and instrumentalists in the recording studio. I then have the sounds pressed to vinyl for use in performance. My work samples pitched material, sound effects, spoken word, and noise, and the resulting performance is part composition and part improvisation as the sounds are remixed using Dj/ scratch techniques in performance.
