Events :: Summer Sundae 06

The Bathysphere stage was another raging success at this years Summer Sundae festival. An extra special thanks goes out to headliners Plaid who graciously swapped slots with Psapp when their keyboard player got caught up in the airport mayhem. Indeed, all the acts were a pleasure, the music was amazing and the atmosphere was great. Roll on 2007.

Summer is (finally) here and we are hugely excited to announce the full line-up for the Bathysphere Stage at this year’s Summer Sundae Festival. Things kick off earlier than last year, with the festival site opening at 2pm on Friday 11th August. That gives us even more time to bring you the latest, the hottest and the most delicious electronica for your listening and visual pleasure.

If you were lucky enough to squeeze into our packed out marquee in 2005, you could be forgiven for thinking that the line-up, which included Fortet, Minotaur Shock and Arovane, would be hard to match. You’d be wrong.

Headliners Plaid (Warp Records) will no doubt fill the tent to bursting with a full on audio visual treat, hot on the heels of their much talked about DVD/CD release Greedy Baby (out 26 June, Warp). www.plaid.co.uk

Gorgeous, melodic and poignant, Psapp (Domino Records) describe themselves as a band that likes “making songs with little noises poking out”. Providing perfect summer evening lushness, this makes them our brilliant choice for second headliner - if we do say so ourselves. www.psapp.net

The Bathysphere Recordings stable is well represented with SofaLofa taking the delights of his uplifting debut album Mellifluous and twisting them into a live set brimful with cinematic ambient soundscapes, forged from acoustic instruments and electronic trickery.

A Hawk and a Hacksaw (The Leaf Label) truly ‘makes’ music, creating frantic compositions layered through with natural harmonies and environmental sounds, whilst innovation and inspiration also remain the staple of Expanding Records' own Stendec who boast a long legacy of mighty fine electronic music. www.brokenheartfoundation.org.uk/hawk & www.expandingrecords.com

Two truly unique performances come in the form of London based Now (Pickled Egg Records) who fuse elements of lo-fi, synth pop with krautrock, free jazz and sounds from ethnic sources, and Formication, whose creeped-out electronica finds rhythm in structured chaos for an intensely irresistible experience. www.pickled-egg.co.uk & www.theformicarium.com

And as a special treat we have decided to let Bathyspheres own The Buoys (Bathysphere Recordings) out of the studio where they have been hard at it recording their debut album, and into the fresh air to bring a set of brand new, sweetly shivering tunes and live visuals.

But just when you think you can't take anymore electronic goodness, head out of the tent, look up and check out the Bathysphere visuals projected straight onto the walls of De Montfort Hall.

Now can see why we’re so excited? See you in August.
