Summer Sundae is almost upon us once again and our 4th year sees us presenting a great line up of live electronic artists on the Rising Stage, a host of new collaborative audio visual work in our Nanoplex and live visual artists in the indoor stage.
Rising Stage (Friday)
Pole (~scape)
A rare UK festival appearance from Berlin based Stefan Betke, a.k.a. Pole, who’s constantly evolving experimental dub and electronica has seen him gain a growing reputation in recent years. Betke strips layer after layer of sound, working toward a minimalist essence, everything is possible, extracting the most intensity from the least amount of material as possible.
Kangding Ray (Raster-Noton)
Kangding Ray is David Letellier, born in france, but now lives and works in berlin. His artful Electronica is melodic and minimally textured. His debut album Stabil was released in 2006. Having started his musical career as a guitarist and drummer in rock bands, Letellier has made his transition into the world of cutting edge sound design with admirable aplomb.
Modified Toy Orchestra (Warm Circuit)
An ongoing project by award winning sound artist Brian Duffy, the orchestra explores the surplus value and hidden potential of discarded technologies. Children’s electronic toys are rescued from car boot sales, these toys are then taken apart, rewired and reconstructed into new musical instruments.
This year sees a new incarnation of the orchestra, expanding its live potential to form a six piece band accompanying Brian in the process of performing and writing. Brian invited a selection of his favourite artists to collaborate on the project, happily they all agreed and the conductors of the Modified Toy Orchestra now consists of Darren Joyce (dreams of tall buildings) Mike Johnston (plone, mike in mono) Michael Valentine West (twiggy and the k-mesons) Lawrence Hunt (Pram) Chris Plant ( colour burst ).. the radical aesthetic purity of this new line up has been blowing the minds of audiences across the UK
Badun (Rump)
Badun´s adventurous and narrative music is the product of three people (Oliver Duckert, Aske Krammer & Brian Møller) - all from very different musical backgrounds.
In 2001 the group was formed with the ambition to create a new musical genre somewhere in between abstract digital sound design, non-repetitive electronica and the free spirit of 1970's fusion jazz.
Badun has played at festivals such as Roskilde Festival (Denmark) and Norberg Festival (Sweden).
The Buoys (Bathysphere)
Taking inspiration from many years of producing soundtracks and audio-visual work for theatre, film and installation The Buoys create cinematic soundscapes using custom-built electronics, field recordings, spitting static and wide screen guitar. The band comprises of Bathysphere musicians and producers Chris Cousin, Stu Smith and Steve Gibbs.
