Summer Sundae Weekender
DeMontfort Hall and gardens, Leicester
8-9-10 August 2008

Now in our 5th year at Summer Sundae Bathysphere are proud to announce a veritable cornucopia of audio visual delights over all three days of the festival. Featuring some of the best the world of electronica has to offer, the cream of DMU's music tech students (past and present), a healthy slab of bass heavy dubstep and retina singeing video projections.

Frank Bretschneider
Frank Bretschneider works as a musician, composer and video artist in Berlin. His work is known for precise sound placement, complex, interwoven rhythm structures and its minimal, flowing approach. Described as „abstract analogue pointilism“, „ambience for spaceports“ or „hypnotic echochamber pulsebeat“, Bretschneider‘s subtle and detailed music is echoed by his visuals: perfect translated realizations of the qualities found in music within visual phenomena.

Powerplant
At the heart of the Powerplant sound is the percussion and live electronics duo of genre trashing Ensemble Bash virtuoso, Joby Burgess and Liverpool based composer and live sound engineer, Matthew Fairclough. Coupled with specially created film, vintage computer imagery and live visuals from Bristol based visual artist Kathy Hinde, the trio has created an experimental and challenging repertoire fusing seminal percussion works alongside their own work, improvisations, commissioned material and a new version of Steve Reich’s hypnotic Electric Counterpoint for xylosynth.

Philip Jeck
Philip Jeck studided visual arts at Dartington College of Arts in the 1970's and has been creating sound with record-players since the early 80's. He has worked with many dance and theatre companies and played with muscians such as Jah Wobble, Steve Lacy, Gavin Bryars(a new version of The Sinking Of The Titanic) and Christian Fennesz.

Threep feat. Neal Unreal
Bathysphere's own Chris Cousin and Stu Smith present their latest project 'Threep' exploring the sonic landscape of circuit bending, granular synthesis, max msp and unconventional methods of musical composition. Armed with a bewildering array of bakelite knobs and patch cables Threep bring to Summer Sundae a live incarnation of their audio / visual project 'Serious Play'. Threep will be joined on stage by Neal Unreal with his 'Light Wands' to deliver a (quite literally) static charged performance.

Tim Wright and John Richards have worked on numerous projects together since the 1990s, most notably in the group Sand who have released three albums on Soul Jazz Records. Despite their work together, they have had separate career paths. Tim Wright has been released, under his own name and most notable the pseudonyms Tube Jerk and Germ, on some of the key electronic record labels of the last fifteen years.

Phaeleh
Bristol based producer Phaeleh has been making music for as long as he can remember. It was when introduced to an old version of Cubasis in 1999 that Phaeleh put down the guitars and started dabbling with electronic music.
The distinct sound of Phaeleh fuses the dark and heavy sounds of Dubstep and Drum and Bass with the melodies and soundscapes of Electronica, all sealed together with the subtle textures of acousmatic music.

Ohlmeier & Khroustaliov
Heralded as "Probably the most fascinating project since the London Sinfonietta interpreted the works of Aphex Twin and Squarepusher" (Rocksound magazine), the duo of Isambard Khroustaliov (AKA Sam Britton from the electronic group Icarus) and bass clarinet player Lothar Ohlmeier have been working together since 2005, exploring the landscape proposed by combining free improvisation with live electronics and performing at improvised music meetings, jazz and experimental music festivals all over Europe.

Origami Biro is Tom Hill: Formerly one half of the acclaimed electronica duo, Wauvenfold (Wichita Records), Tom's work has earned himself a reputation among the likes of Björk, Super Furry Animals and none other than John Peel himself, for whom Wauvenfold recorded session work aired on Radio One.

Mijim
Mijim has relased his 1st 7" single on Melange Records, back in 2001, and has had radio play on Mary ann Hobbs show on Radio 1
Mijim also is a VJ with 'Vent media'. and also makes Video Art, Mijim has been making beat based electronica for 9 years, experimenting with various styles and Genres.
For Summer sundae Mijim will be playing a 'Dub step' inspired set.

Myoptik
For 10 years myoptik has been a radio presenter, dj, music journalist, producer and event promoter based in Leicester. His record label ping-discs exists to demonstrate unharnessed depth and emotion in modern music. He is currently working on a new studio album that will underline this unnerving propensity.

Turntablist James Kelly and Laptop performer Adam Weikert create music which exists in a void between narrative and abstraction, combining elements of minimalism, ambient music, spoken word, field recordings and noise to creating evolving landscapes in sound.
